Cairn Cross win two Awards at CECA 2023

Cairn Cross was awarded the HIGHLY COMMENDED Project of the Year Award 2022 for our Hull Botanic Gardens Project and HIGHLY COMMENDED for Going the Extra Mile Award 2022, which highlighted our in-house apprenticeship training and development programme and apprentice workbooks.

The award was presented at the CECA Annual Dinner, which took place on 29th September 2023, which Galliford Try sponsored.

Highly Commended Award for Going the Extra Mile 2022 – Apprenticeship Programme

Our Apprentice Training Program was launched to empower and equip aspiring individuals with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experiences to excel in their chosen fields. Designed to bridge the gap between education and employment, our program has unique additional elements to the way apprentices are trained and prepared for future career success.

We have taken a considered approach to apprentice development by providing a comprehensive and holistic training experience that is second to none and is based on nurturing competent and motivated professionals of the future.

In 2022, we employed five apprentices, equal to 10% of our total workforce. This commitment far exceeds the entry requirements for our recently signed 5% club charter, an industry-led initiative focused on driving momentum into recruiting apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.

HIGHLY COMMENDED Project of the Year Award 2022 – Hull Botanic Gardens

Cairn Cross delivered Northern Rail an upgraded maintenance rail depot with a shed extension and new facilities to enhance the maintenance of their expanding fleet of new B exams to Class 170 and Class 155 rolling stock.

A significant part of the project was installing a new building structure that replaced the existing building roof and incorporated an extension road as part of the scope of work. The depot needed to remain open and operational throughout the project because of the nature of the critical maintenance works to the current rolling stock fleet.

To achieve the client’s requirements, a new steel super-structure canopy was constructed over the existing depot and added a road to the west of the depot. This project required associated civil engineering groundworks such as foundations, drainage and lighting. Maintenance equipment was installed, including CET, fuelling points, stabling and AdBlue modules to the site.

Cairn Cross would like to congratulate all winners and entrants of this year’s awards especially the CECA team, for another successful award ceremony.
