Neville Hill Underfloor Wheel Lathe Completion
Cairn Cross Civil Engineering are proud to announce the completion of work at Neville Hill Train care depot in Leeds, in partnership with Network Rail, Northern Rail and RMTS.
The Installation of a new underfloor Wheel Lathe at Neville Hill, Leeds is now complete following works undertaken by Cairn Cross.
Working as the Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, we provided the construction and design works associated with installing the Hegenscheidt Wheel Lathe at Neville Hill Light Maintenance Depot, Leeds.
The 21 -week project was delivered ahead of time (December 2020) and provides the depot with a fantastic new facility.
The existing 106 underfloor Wheel Lathe was removed from the pit at the end of its serviceable life after 27 years, Cairn Cross reconstructed the foundation base in preparation of the installation of the new wheel lathe machine.
The site teams created a new modified pit, including brand-new safe access steps with GRP handrail systems. Associated electrical works, including Endurance Luminaire, Sump pump and associated outfall pipework.
Paintwork created safe non-slip surface walking routes and protection.
Despite the challenges that the coronavirus pandemic presented and the intensified Health and Safety measures to ensure social distancing, compliance, and management, we delivered the project ahead of time without experiencing any accidents.
