To install an AVIS system along the existing carriage wash at King’s Heath Depot
The Challenge
To reduce TOC Rolling Stock Maintenance requirements, an Automated Vehicle Maintenance System (AVIS) was required along the existing Carriage Wash Road at King’s Heath Depot in Northampton.
This would include structural bases to allow a safe and secure installation, whilst maintaining an Operational Railway.
The Solution
Several Possession and Isolations were taken along the existing Carriage Wash Road to allow excavation and installation, which included specialised Crane lifts, 25m of new P-Way, and a comprehensive electrical fit-out.
Structural calculations were made to ensure the concrete aprons could withstand the specialist equipment, and a full perimeter Share Barrier erected to reduce any risk of Laser damage.
The Result
The AVIS now provides the TOC opportunity to reduce their maintenance requirements of either Rolling Stock by capturing laser measurements of key train components.
New Shade Barriers and Walkways provide safe access to and inside the facility, as well as a full Earthing & Bonding arrangement.
