The Challenge

The existing carriage wash at Perth Station needed replacing. The project was to install a new wash facility and remove the existing wash facility. The old carriage wash remained in use throughout the project to ensure that First Scot Rail could carry on with normal operations.

The Solution

Cairn Cross installed: new drainage, foundations and a steel framed structure to house the washing equipment with automatic doors to provide cold weather protection. There was also a water storage tank and a plant room housing the detergent and pumping equipment.

The Result

A new designated plant room housed all of the latest equipment, including a GRP water tank, detergent tanks, pumps and washing facilities. The finished building was the first of its kind in Scotland, offering suitable frost protection properties an given the harsh conditions and providing ease of maintenance and an extended life. The GRP track pans were also the first-ever installation of this type designed by Cairn Cross.
