Cairn Cross built steel structure and gantry walkways to access the top of the trains in the depot.
The Challenge
As Principal Contractor, Cairn Cross removed the existing system, the DPPS (Depot Personnel Protection system), and frames and replaced it with a new gantry installation.
The Solution
Cairn Cross removed the outdated systems, including breaking out columns to expose the cantilever steel. Installation of a new gantry, pedestrian gates, escaper lander, and guard rail allowed for increased safety and productivity. A 3.5 Ton Semi Goliath Crane were installed into the depot to replace the current crane. Finally, new modern LED were lights fitted at a high level to create a better working environment.
The Result
This new addition to the depot allows safe working with a 10-metre extension to the north side. New facilities, equipment and safety measures will provide the depot with ease of access and reliability whilst carrying out maintenance works.
