A Look Back at 2022
A Look back at 2022
For the previous twelve months, the Cairn Cross team has delivered various construction projects across the country in different public and private sectors and secured new projects to start in the new year.
Many projects concluded throughout the year, and we were delighted to pass these completed projects to the clients.

September 2021 marked the completion of works for Greenholme Mills. The team delivered infrastructure and groundworks to support the renovation of a decommissioned mill into luxury apartments. The critical work included structural foundations, drainage, retaining walls, and a flood defence wall. Above ground, a new substation, car parking, and hard and soft surfacing, including access roads, were delivered by Cairn Cross.

In October, working as the main contractor, Cairn Cross completed the installation of an Automated Vehicle Maintenance System (AVIS) at Siemens depot, King’s Heath, Northampton. Allowing the train operator to have maintenance data for the rolling stock. Read more here.
2022 Begins
At the beginning of the year, Hull Botanic Gardens maintenance depot gained a significant building extension to facilitate CET, fuelling and other maintenance tasks to maintain the expanding rolling stock fleet. You can learn more about the project here.
Shortly afterwards, ground works were completed at Tim Horton’s drive-thru restaurants. Cairn Cross provided new drainage, access roads and hard landscaping works to convert buildings into new drive-thru facilities.
In March, Southend Victoria received a new state-of-the-art AVIS system. The new facility provides laser measurements of key train components to reduce maintenance requirements on the rolling stock for the train operator.

Later in the year as main contractor, we designed and built a project providing a new tandem wheel lathe facility with building and new p-way sidings at the Central Rivers rail depot in Burton-on-Trent for Bombardier and Alstom Rail.
The project was completed in March on schedule despite the challenging ground conditions. Cairn Cross provided the client with a modern and upgraded depot and associated works to facilitate their continued maintenance work. The site required a full mechanical and electrical fit-out delivered by our in-house electrical engineering team.
Peter Waterman, chairman of the Railway Benefit Fund, unveiled the new maintenance with a ceremonious ribbon cutting. Read more about the Central Rivers project here.
We swapped our muddy work boots for tuxedos in September and headed to the CECA awards dinner. It was a great evening celebrating the industry’s continued success. Congratulations to all the winners.
“This year, we have delivered our expertise to various public and private sector design and build construction projects. We are proud of our work and business expansion and aim to continue this growing success into 2023” shares Managing Director, Phil Williamson.
